Taurus Packaging was established in 1977 as a manufacturer of potato sacks in Cape Town.
During 1979 the factory relocated to Northern Kwazulu Natal to get closer to the general sack market customers as well as the dominant paper suppliers. Since then much expansion has taken place which has lead Taurus Packaging to be amongst the leading paper bag manufacturers in South Africa and a specialist supplier to the general paper packaging industry.
Taurus is a supplier to all segments of paper bag and sack users in the country and has built up a capacity to annually convert in excess of
28 000 tons of paper into printed, high quality bags for the paper packaging industry. In 2019 Taurus is in track to produce more than 450 million units to our South African and neighbouring state customers.
Major expansion into technologically advanced and sophisticated machines have been the drive of Taurus during the past 10 years to put Taurus at the forefront of the printed paper bag market in Southern Africa. A machine to insert windows into SO bags and machines to attach paper handles onto carrier bags are some of the specialist machines acquired during this time.
Due to consistent growth over the last 15 years, Taurus has had to expand its manufacturing facilities on three different occasions and presently totals 20 000 m2 under roof spread over 4 premises.
From modest beginnings more than 40 years ago, with a very small number of employees, Taurus now boasts an employee compliment of more than 280. Taurus continues to invest, in what we view as the key to our continued success, the training and skills development of our employees and thus expansion of our technical skills base.
